Ukrainian soprano, Oksana Krovytska, was invited to America by the renowned manager Thea Dispeker, who brought her to New York City Opera in 1993. For the next 10 seasons, the soprano was acclaimed there as Liu in Turandot, Micaela in Carmen, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Musetta and Mimi in La Bohème, Violetta in La Traviata, Magda in La Rondine, Yaroslavna in a new production of Borodin's Prince Igor, and numerous appearances as Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly - including a new production by Mark Lamos. She was honored with City Opera's coveted "Diva Award," and such media as The New York Times described her performance in a headline as "the Butterfly Puccini wanted," as well as calling her "the center of our attention [and] the object of our admiration."
Following her New York success, Ms. Krovytska has become internationally known through such roles as Margherita and Elena in Boito's Mefistofele (Casals Festival in Puerto Rico), Elvira in Ernani (Santiago Opera in Chile), Marguerite in Faust (Opera de Bellas Artes in Mexico), Marie in Smetana's Bartered Bride (Opera de Monte Carlo), Renata in the acclaimed Francesca Zambello premiere production of Prokofiev's The Fiery Angel (Bolshoi Opera in Moscow), Senta in Wagner's Flying Dutchman (Arizona and Anchorage Operas), Katya Kabanova (Florida Grand Opera, L'Opera de Montreal, and San Francisco Opera), the title role in Suor Angelica (Opera Santa Barbara), Tatiana in Eugene Onegin (Todi Music Festival), Liu in Turandot, Mimi in La bohème, and Micaela in Carmen (Opern Air Festival in Austria), Amelia in Un Ballo In Maschera (Kansas City Lyric Opera) and the title role of Fedora (Palm Beach Opera), as well as Puccini's Tosca and Abigaille in Verdi's Nabucco (Brno National Opera in the Czech Republic). This seaon she potrays all three heroines in Puccini's Il Trittico with El Paso Opera.
Ms. Krovytska has made many concert appearances with such orchestras as New Jersey Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, National Symphony, Opera Orchestra of New York, RTVE Orchestra (Spain), Netherlands Radio Symphony, Tokyo National Orchestra, and the North German Radio Orchestra. Her recordings include Dvorak's Requiem and The Spectre's Bride with Zdenek Macal and the N.J.Symphony on Delos, as well as recordings of opera scenes and Ukrainian songs on HAM. In 2009 she performed Dvorak's Stabat Mater with Italy's esteemed Umbria Music Fest in Rome and Assisi.
Ms. Krovytska is an honors graduate of the Kiev Conservatory. She makes her home in a suburb of New York and looks forward to many more challenging roles and seasons at the great opera houses of the world.
